France

This program is designed as a cultural exchange program, allowing you to immerse yourself in the French culture and to learn the French language. This program is a very affordable way to experience France.

If you decide to become an Au-pair you will be taken in by your host family and given free board and accommodation, a weekly allowance and the opportunity to attend language classes on a regular basis. In return you will help out your family by taking care of the children and helping with light household duties.

 Location

Au pair placements are made in a range of locations across France. Location is determined by the availability of a suitable host family.

 Applicant requirements

Au pairs must be aged between 18 and 29 years of age. Au pairs are required to have some previous childcare experience and to have no criminal record. It is useful, but not necessary, to have some knowledge of French.

 What is expected of you?

Au pairs will provide child care for approximately 6 hours per day, 5 days per week plus two nights of babysitting per week if required. Duties may include feeding, and bathing the children, driving the children to school, putting them to bed, playing with them and helping them with their homework. You may also be expected to do some light housework such as washing up, vacuuming and ironing the children’s clothes.

Au pairs are often asked to accompany the host family on holidays which can be a wonderful opportunity to discover another part of France or Europe.

You will also be expected to attend at least 4 hours per week of French language classes. This is a great opportunity to improve your French language skills and help you to get more out of your experience in France.

What is expected of your host family?

In return for taking care of the children, the host family will provide you with your own room and three meals a day. You will also be given an allowance of at least 75€ per week and your public transport expenses to and from school will be covered.
