USA

This program is designed as a cultural exchange program, allowing you to immerse yourself in the American culture. Au-pairs are given an amazing opportunity to travel abroad and become a part of an American family. This is a very affordable way to see America.

If you decide to become an Au-pair you will be taken in by your host family and be given free board and accommodation, a small amount of pocket money and the opportunity to attend language classes on a regular basis. In return you will help out your family by taking care of the children and helping with light household duties.

Applicant Requirements

• Between the ages of 18-26 and at least a high school graduate

• Enthusiastic to share customs and culture with an American family

• Experienced with recent documented “practical” childcare. (For children 2 years and under, the Au Pair is required to have 200 hours of recent documented infant care.)

• In possession of a valid international driver’s license and has no criminal record

• Open-minded with a positive and adventurous attitude to complete a one year commitment

What is expected of an Au pair?

The Au Pair provides up to 45 hours per week of childcare. Childcare duties will take up no more than five-and-a-half days per week and no more than 10 hours per day.

All the Au Pair’s duties will be focused specifically on the children; no heavy housework is expected. Daily tasks may include waking the children, dressing infants and toddlers, bathing and playing with them. You may also be expected to prepare preparing meals for the children, tidy their belongings, make their beds and do their laundry.

An Au pair is also expected to complete 6 units of study at an accredited US education provider.
