Australian Interns

France

France is renowned for the quality of its education in hospitality. This programme is ideal for students seeking a career in the Hotel and Catering industry and wishing to further their training through a work experience in this field. Students will get the opportunity to practise their skills in various sizes hotels and restaurants. Positions offered vary according to language, skills and previous experiences in this field.

Location 

Internships are available all over France including Paris, Marseilles, Lille, Nantes and Montpellier. Placements are made according to hotel/restaurant availability.

 Applicant Requirements

 Applicants must be at least 18 years of age with an upper intermediate level of French (possibility to take French courses prior to the work placement for students who do not have the level required). Applicants must also have some academic training and/or previous experience in the hospitality industry.

 Length of the programme

 3 to 6 months

 Positions available

 Room attendant, receptionist, waitperson, bartender, kitchen attendant, etc...

 Working conditions

  •  Internship contract with a French hotel and/or restaurant.

  • Participants will get a training allowance (about €150 to €200 per month).

  • Participants are provided with accommodation by their employer. Food may also be provided depending on the hotel/restaurant.

  • Full-time or part-time. Legal full-time in France in this industry is 39 hrs per week (11 to 14 hours of work per day) - one day is usually worked during the week-end or on a shift work basis.

  • Two days off per week, not necessarily consecutive. Each hotel or restaurant has its own working arrangement that trainees must accept. Each of them is different and will provide different standards of accommodation or food.

  • Applicants must buy their own uniform

Visas 

Australian citizens are entitled to apply for a working holiday visa. This visa entitles the holder to spend a maximum of 12 months in France whilst supplementing their travels with casual work. For more information please contact the French embassy in Australia.

 If you hold an EU passport then you are entitled to reside in France with full work rights.
